/ Overview:
These are 6 month seasonal auxiliary positions.
At Wildland Fire Management our priority is to protect life, property and resources in a safe, professional and effective manner. The Area Protection Officer assists the Zone Protection Manager in delivering the Fire Management Program and coordinates, manages, evaluates and supervises fire management activities.
The ideal candidate will be dedicated and highly motivated with strong organizational and leadership skills. You will have the ability to assess risk and make sound decisions in stressful situations while implementing safety practices and procedures. You must exhibit an open minded and adaptable approach to resolving problems and have effective communication and conflict resolution skills.

- Successful completion of post-secondary education in a discipline including courses in Wildfire Management.
- Experience managing pre-suppression and wildfire suppression resources in Initial Attack.
- Experience managing pre-suppression and wildfire suppression resources in Sustained Action situations at a Type 2 Incident or larger.
- Experience supervising staff, and delivering fire management training programs.
Candidates with completion of specialized Wildfire Management training and considerable experience as outlined above will be equally considered.
Condition(s) of Employment: Valid Yukon Class 5 drivers licence (or equivalent), medical clearance, standard first aid certificate and CPR “C” level certificate (wilderness first aid with CPR “C” also acceptable), air ground radio licence, and a successful pass in a fitness test and maintenance of fitness level.
Job Requirement(s): Working extended hours for long periods of time (including evenings and weekends) during the fire season and traveling to other communities around the Yukon; wearing a uniform; ability to live and work in remote locations.

A one year eligibility list will be established from this competition to fill future vacancies for identical positions and may also be used for similar positions within the department.
