Requirements / Overview: The City of Ottawa has been described as one of the most beautiful national capitals in the world; possessing a unique combination of urban and rural landscapes and communities. Home to approximately 900,000 people, Ottawa is dynamic and culturally rich, providing the accessibility and atmosphere of a smaller city with the amenities and services of a much larger urban centre. As Chief of Ottawa’s Fire Service Division, you and your 1,300 member team will serve an area of 2,700 square kilometers providing Fire and Emergency Services, as well as public fire and life safety education, to residents within the community.

Reporting to the General Manager, Emergency and Protective Services you will join the department’s senior management team and contribute to municipal strategy and policy development through your provision of expert advice to elected officials, City management and key stakeholders on business issues related to Fire Services.

A visionary, proactive and visible leader, known for your creative thinking and leadership development skills, you will guide and groom a changing work force of professional and volunteer fire fighters, championing equity and diversity programs that reflect the community you serve. Through sound business planning, budgeting and efficient operational practices, you will ensure that you have the people and the resources to provide best-in-class fire and emergency services to all urban and rural centers. A clear, concise, fluently bilingual communicator and a respected professional with business partners and union leadership, you are a confident and credible contributor, known for your ability to build and sustain key relationships with the community at large.

If you would enjoy living in one of Ontario’s largest cities, known for its quality of life and community service, while working with a progressive municipal organization, and advocating for fire safety and emergency planning in a growing and vibrant community; we invite you to bring your proven track record as a consummate leader in all of the modern disciplines and business imperatives of a major fire service forward.
